Lhasa is the administrative capital of the Tibet,  autonomous Region of China, and one of the highest cities in the world with the stunning altitude of 3500 metres.

Lhasa literally means "place of the gods", is the chinese city par excellence of religion, and main destination for religious, spiritualists and people in search of the inner peace.

Buddhism was influenced by the local religion, called Bon, and developed into a form called Lamaism.

Extraordinary cultural centre, where traditional medicine, astrology, philosophy and Buddhism could be studied in great institutions of learning.

The whole Tibet has suffered the pressure of China over centuries of conflicts, as this region was an independent country and now forced to be part of the People's Republic of China.

Lhasa remaining historic buildings are a rare example of urban Tibetan architecture, and offer the only chance for scientific research of the evolution of Tibetan architecture.

To enter Tibet along with the visa it needs a special permit available in most of the biggest international travel agencies or in special departments in China, released only if you have designed your own tour. 

Most important thing to mind is the the high altitude of this location. The acute Mountain Sickness, also called Altitude Sickness is the biggest health risk to tourists in Tibet, that could be fatal for a majority of people. It is recommended to raise in altitude slowly (500 meters a day), to let your body get used of the pressure and the low percentage of oxygen in the air. In extreme cases oxygen tanks can save lives.

There are many sights to visit here. It is not allowed to use cameras in monasteries and temples, be patient, mind the people and be as respectful as possible, as you will enjoy the peace and the beauties that this place offer.
