Macau is the second special Administrative Region of China, autonomous territory in the Southern East coast of the country on the western side of the Pearl River Delta, at opposite side of Hong Kong.
Former portuguese colony, Macau shows a lot about Portugul, in fact the official language is Portuguese along with Chinese and Cantonese, the most widespread religion is catholicism, and many traditions and customs are originally portuguese. In the area there are still present military establishments of the colonial era.
Under the policy of "one country, two systems", the State Council of China is responsible for military defense and foreign affairs while Macau maintains its own legal system, the currency (Macanese Pataca), customs policy, and immigration policy (you can visit macau without a Visa for a short stay).
Macau's economy is based largely on tourism, for its history, for its amazing skyline and especially for gambling. Being nominated "the Asian Las Vegas" owns 3 of the biggest casino in the world (Venetian Macau, MGM Grand Macau and Galaxy Casino), and immense buildings in their unique design.
Usually Macau is quite expensive as city, but there are plenty of activities sized for every wallet.
Bus services are frequent and inexpensive and can bring you everywhere. Taxi are more expensive, and an excellent alternative is the Rickshaw.
Railway are well linked to airport and major cities in China. There are also ferrys that connect the city with Hong Kong.
In Macau you can enjoy a Venice-like area, equipped even with canals and gondolas and also more and more attractions.
