Suzhou is a city in Jiangsu province, located in the center of Yangtze Delta in the eastern China, very close to Shanghai. 

The city is well known for its beautiful gardens, traditional waterside architecture and several canals that make the look shining in all its uniqueness, this is because Suzhou is called the "Venice of the East".

In the past Suzhou was the capital of the Kingdom of Wu and one of the most important cities in the world, strategically located on a major trade route, in the course of the history, it has been a metropolis of industry and commerce on the southeastern coast of China, until the incredibile fast development of the nearby city of Shanghai.

The city is unique also for the slightly sweet cuisine based on freshwater fish and shellfish. A must-try is "Song Shu Gui Yu", that is fried fish meat cut into strips, breaded in flour, fried, and served covered with pine nuts and a sweet-and-sour sauce.

There is no airport in the city, the nearest one is Shanghai Pudong Airport, where it is possible to take the train for Shanghai and then change it for Suzhou. The 2 cities are very well-connected with high-speed railway, and you can travel toward them in approximately 30 minutes.

There are 2 principle metro lines (and more still in development phase) that run in all directions for a ticket fare of 2 CNY. City buses are also convenient and can take visitors to most attractions within the city for a price of 1-2 CNY.

To enjoy the city at its best is truly reccommended to cycle throughout streets and bridges, and taking a boat ride on the city's canals. Suzhou is an inspiration heaven for artists, craftsmen and photographers for its ancient heritage that has been preserved during ages and listed by UNESCO in the World Heritage List. There are many sites to visit in this city.
