


WULINGYUAN SCENIC AREA

Wulingyuan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located near the city of Zhangjiajie, located in the southern east of China.
Famous for its scattered stunning karst pillars of quartz-sandstone covered by tropical rainforests, result of many years of physical erosion, Wulingyuan Scenic Area is an interesting tourist attraction and includes several national parks, the most famous is Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, that have inspired the landscape of the movie "Avatar".
Another tourist's favorite spot is Tianzi Mountain Natural Resource Reserve, rich in strange peaks and rocks, and in constant clouds and fog. The reserve lies at a high elevation which makes sightseeing physically challenging. This reserve is renowned for four marvelous spectacles-the cloud and mist, the night with shining moon, the winter snow and the morning and evening rosy clouds.
The best way to get into the area is from Zhangjiajie city, which provides a national airport, and a station that can be reached from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Changsha. There is also a main bus station with 1 hour minibus for a cost of 10 CNY that goes to the village of Zhangjiajie Cun, the entrance of the park.
The only options available from the ticket office are 4 day pass for 248 CNY in the high season, or 7 days admission ticket for 298 CNY with free rides on the internal bus system.
A further way to reach the site is with taxi that usually charge expensive fees, sometime unfairly.
You can get around the site with many ways, by walking long distances following the designated path, by minibus routes , by cable cars or by outdoor elevators.
Apart from the long caves and the stunning view you can enjoy anywhere in the area, there are also plenty of activities to do here, including hiking.
